Pillar Bank is pleased to welcome Hannah Zimmel as a Ag/Commercial Banker based in Baldwin and Plum City.

A River Falls native, Hannah recently returned to western Wisconsin after spending 10 years in Missouri. She brings extensive agricultural lending and credit experience, most recently serving as a Farm Loan Specialist with the USDA Farm Service Agency. Her previous roles with FSA include Farm Loan Manager and Farm Loan Officer.

What drew Hannah to agricultural lending? The fact that no two operations are alike.

“I enjoy seeing different operations and getting to learn from everyone. No farmer does things the same, and seeing the diversity of operations and industries is something I really enjoy.”

We asked Hannah what agricultural producers should be thinking about right now.

What are you hearing from producers?

“We’re in a cycle where prices are so volatile that even the most established operations are having to take a second look at plans and budgets. This is the time to know exactly where you stand and have a well-defined marketing plan in place.”

What financial numbers should producers be watching?

“Working capital and liquidity ratios are huge. One repair bill or unexpected cost could change the whole plan for the year.”

When should a farmer talk to their banker?

“Always talk to your banker! We see so many operations that we most likely have a tip or trick that could help, even if you’re not looking for a new loan at this time.”

What should borrowers have ready when applying for financing?

“Having supporting documentation ready to go makes a difference—a prepared balance sheet, tax returns and a rough plan for the next cycle.”

Outside of banking, Hannah enjoys horseback riding, reading and spending time with her two children.

Welcome home, Hannah—and welcome to Pillar Bank!
